The short version

Who we are

Rewardly ("the app") is a habit tracker for iPhone and Android, made by an independent developer based in France. In this policy, "we" and "us" means the Rewardly developer. You can reach us at rewardlyhabit@gmail.com.

What stays on your phone

Your habits and their history, points, rewards (including their photos), notes and photos on check-ins, tasks and settings are stored locally on your device. We cannot see them. Home screen widgets read the same data on your device.

Habit reminders are scheduled locally on your device and are not sent through any server.

Photos you add to check-ins are resized on your device, which also removes their location and camera metadata. No photo, on a check-in or a reward, is ever uploaded by the app.

Backup and restore (a Pro feature) creates a file on your device that you choose where to save or share. The app does not upload it anywhere. The backup includes reward photos but not check-in photos.

Anonymous usage statistics

We use PostHog, hosted in the European Union, to understand how the app is used. It receives events such as "app opened", "habit created", "habit checked in" or "reward unlocked", with details like the habit's schedule and difficulty, the streak, the points of a drop, the point price of a reward, your time zone and whether you have Pro.

We use this only to improve Rewardly. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone else.

Subscriptions

Rewardly Pro is purchased through the App Store or Google Play. Payment details are handled by Apple or Google and are never accessible to us. We use RevenueCat to check whether you have Pro. RevenueCat uses an anonymous identifier and your purchase receipts; we don't send it your name or email.

iCloud sync (optional, iPhone only)

If you turn on iCloud sync (a Pro feature, off by default), the app saves a copy of your data to your own private iCloud account, so your devices stay in step. This copy includes your habits and their history, notes, rewards, points and settings, and the name of the device that last synced. Photos themselves are not synced. The copy is stored by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; we cannot read it.

Habit buddies (optional, off by default)

Habit buddies lets you share chosen habits with people you know. It is the only feature that sends your habit data to our server, and nothing is sent until you turn it on.

What we create when you turn it on

An account holding a display name you choose (up to 20 characters) and a random 8-character friend code. We don't ask for an email address, a phone number or access to your contacts, and there is no third-party login.

What is sent while it is on

Only for the habits you switch on for sharing:

Also: the total points you have earned, your app language (so notifications are in your language), and a notification token if you allow notifications. If you choose to share a specific reward's redemptions, the reward's name and the date you redeemed it are sent too; this is off for every reward unless you turn it on.

What is never sent

Habits you haven't shared, habit descriptions, notes you mark private, your photos, reward prices and photos, your location, your contacts, and any identifier of your device or Apple or Google account.

Who can see it

Only people you have added as friends, where both of you accepted. There are no public profiles, no search by name and no way for a stranger to find you. Friends can't message you; they can only send a cheer.

Notifications about friends

When someone sends you a friend request, accepts yours, or cheers one of your habits, our server sends a notification through Expo's push service, which delivers it through Apple (on iPhone) or Google (on Android). The notification shows the friend's display name and, for a cheer, the habit's name. We never notify you about a friend's own check-ins.

How long we keep it

DataKept for
Feed activity and cheers17 days
Shared check-in dates and notesReplaced each time the app syncs, so only the recent window above is held
Daily summaries used for streaksAbout 13 months
Notification tokensDeleted after 90 days without use
A habit you stop sharingRemoved immediately; its feed activity is removed within a day
Your accountUntil you turn habit buddies off

Turning habit buddies off in Settings > Friends ("Turn off and delete my data") deletes your account and everything linked to it from our server.

Reports and blocking

If you report someone, we store a copy of what they shared at that moment (display name, shared habit names and notes, shared reward names) and the two accounts involved, so we can review it and act on repeated abuse. Reports are kept after accounts are deleted, for that purpose. Reporting someone also blocks them. A block stores only the two accounts and the date.

Where it runs

Our server runs in the European Union. Like most web servers, it keeps short-lived technical logs that include IP addresses, used only to keep the service working and secure.

Permissions

Rewardly does not ask for your location, your contacts, or permission to track you across apps.

Your choices and rights

Children

Rewardly is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes

If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
